I've been quite busy these past couple of months preparing for our elementary school's holiday boutique. It's at Cerra Vista Elementary School, 2151 Cerra Vista Road, Hollister, x of Cerra Vista and Union. I hope everyone will come by to Cerra Vista between 9 and 3. At 10:30 we will have a pianist playing Christmas Carols, at noon the Cerra Vista Choir will sing, and Santa Claus will be there from 1 to 3, with professional photos by Zoom Photography.
We have more than 20 vendors attending, selling jewelry, purses, quilts, scarves, knit hats, wood craft items, holiday ornaments, stained glass, skin care and makeup.. the whole gamut. I hope you will be able to attend. Check our web site, www.cerravista.com, or become our Face Book Friend! This holiday boutique will be the best! We hope you can join us!

It's Easter Time
I'm finding, as a writer, that you really do have to think outside the norm when it comes to writing projects.
This past Christmas I was looking for a unique way to make some extra money, fast, so I went online to see what ideas I could discover. Thankfully, I didn't have to do much research because I came upon "write Santa letters." Bingo! I really didn't relish the thought of working at a fast food restaurant or our local 'bulls-eye' department store. This I could do at home and utilize my writing skills.
But this type of writing is really quite different than writing articles for a magazine. It takes quite a bit of creativity and imagination. I am lucky, though, because I have a younger child, and although he no longer believes in St. Nick, I was still able to tap into his imaginative qualities and come up with things that Santa would write to a child.
This new process was rather nerve-wracking. I really didn't think anyone would bite, but they did--big time. I sent out e-mail to people I knew, and they sent it out to people they knew, and so on and so forth. Anyhow, I wrote nearly fifty letters this past year, and the feedback was phenominal. Children were taking their letters to school to share with their teacher and classmates, parents sent me photos of their children hugging their letters--it was really quite amazing.
Now that it's Spring 2009, I'm writing Easter letters for children, and I've even had a request for a Tooth Fairy letter. I love this, now, because I am able to have fun while writing these. l love the freedom it affords me.
So, if you know of anyone who wants an Easter letter from the EB, let me know!
Thanks for reading!

A New Beginning
As a writer, I suppose I should have some sense of what to post, especially if I want people to read this. This is my second time out of the gate when it comes to blogging. I tried it about a year or so ago, but never stuck with it. I keep reading on Deb Ng's site and on About.com's site that it's important to have a blog, especially if you want to become a blog writer. So, here I go again.
My writing "office," though, has also become the family game room, and my son is currently playing a game which involves a lot of noise (from him), so it's rather hard to concentrate. But I will do my best!
My name is Julie Engelhardt and I have been a freelance writer for 20 some years. I'm rather amazed when I look at my resume to see what all I've done over the years. I currently write for Bay Area Parent Magazine located in San Francisco and in the Silicon Valley, which is the one I write for primarily. I'm currently working on an article about how to have eco-friendly birthday parties for your children. At first I wasn't too sure if I'd have much luck finding information, so I put in a Google alert, and the ideas have been coming in at a great rate. Thank you, Google!
There are great ideas for these parties. I've discovered ideas such as sending out e-vites, making your own pinata, and finding Earth-friendly party plates, cups, napkins, etc. One site that is wonderful is called Ecoage http://www.echoage.com/index.html. Here you can send out e-vites as well as have the party guests contribute to a worthwhile cause instead of bringing gifts to the party. Another idea is to have your party at a local nature park. I've just started researching this, so I have a bit to go.
If you have any ideas about green birthday parties, I'm interested in hearing about them!
Thanks for reading,
Julie
